Once again it is time to update the members on the year's happenings at the Tarnov Heritage Museum and Saint Michael Historical Society. The annual meeting was held on Sunday July 18th , 2010 after the 10:00 am Mass. This seemed to work out well with several members in attendance. President Tim Sliva called the meeting to order after lunch. The secretaries report was read and approved. The Treasurer reported an income of $3989.00 from Memberships, Memorials, Donations and Book Sales. We still have to sell about five books to start making a profit from this endeavor. There was no Soup Lunch last year. Expenses were $2910.00 which included our insurance, maintenance, Rent/Utilities and half payment for the Bell Tower Motor in the church. Officers stay the same. Tim Sliva - President; Judy Hanzel - Secretary; Mary Jane Rosenthal - Treasurer. Board Members are : Sally Paprocki, Ben Jarosz, Clarence Torczon, Gene Shemek and Leonard Koziol. Improvements this year in the school building were repainting the Sister's Parlor and a cabinet was made for a New Display of miniature farm equipment. The Michael House is getting a good house cleaning and some minor improvements. One of the Busy Bees had surgery which slowed things up considerably. The Tarnov Heritage Museum received a Grant from the Platte County Convention / Visitors Bureau which went toward a chair lift to the second floor. Exhibits have moved to the second floor. One being on the Musical Talents of former area residents, the miniature farm equipment, and hopefully a picture display of ships our ancestors arrived on. We have the Northeast classroom and coat room left to restore. The Cornhusker Goodwill Fund donated $200 to help with this project. Work is started but a long way to finish. The past repairs and maintenance to the school building have depleted our working funds. To remedy this problem we are planning a Soup Lunch on April 10, 2011 which will include a Garage Sale. Any item you have to donate will be appreciated. What a good time to clean out the basement or garage. Just contact an officer or board member if you have an item to donate or question. Our Historic School Building will be 100 years old in 2011 and we are planning a celebration on September 18, 2011. Plans are not final but will probably start with a Mass followed by lunch, some Polish singing and music and a lot of socializing. We encourage all members to become more active in the Historical Society. Your ideas, criticism or hands -on will be appreciated. If anyone is employed by a company that contributes matching funds to a non-profit organization with a 501c3 IRA number and would like to make that matching donation to St. Michael's Historical Society please contact an officer or board member.
